Feeding Guidelines

Ideal daily feeding portions will vary for different dogs, depending on age, size, breed, environment and activity levels. Because Carna4 is so concentrated in high quality nutrients that are easily absorbed by your dog, you may need to feed 10% – 15% less per day than most other dry foods. The amounts in the table and calculator are guidelines only and you should carefully monitor your dog’s weight, until an ideal balance is found. You may choose to add water to soften Carna4 Easy-Chew for puppies and older dogs with biting difficulties. Add ¼ cup water to one cup of Carna4 and let stand for a minute to create softer nuggets.

Feeding Your Puppy: Feed small quantities in 3 or 4 feedings at the same times each day, reducing to twice per day after 6 months. Divide the total cups per day by the number of feedings to determine how much to set out each time. After 20 minutes, remove any food remaining in the puppy’s bowl.

Pregnant or Nursing Dogs: Add up to 50% more food per day for pregnant dogs after the first 6 weeks. When nursing, the mother should be allowed to free feed throughout the day. She may eat 2 or 3 times as much as a normal adult during this time.

Be careful not to confuse 8oz weight (½ pound) with fluid ounces, as our feeding guide (like most) gives instructions in 8 fluid ounce measuring cups, not 8 ounces of weight.

Remember to:

• Provide your dog with plenty of fresh, clean drinking water at all times.
  
• Bring your dog to the veterinarian regularly.
  
• Give your dog play and exercise every day.

Digestive Health

How much of the food they eat is actually metabolized (absorbed) by your pet? At Carna4, we are committed to regular testing of all of our products for nutritional values and digestibility using the services of an internationally respected third-party lab. When we tested the digestibility of our recipes (the percentage of the nutrition absorbed by the animal eating the food) tests show that Carna4 delivers very high nutritional uptake, reflected in a Percent Digestibility score of 94%-95% for each formula. This is because our recipes contain only pure whole food ingredients which are recognized by the body as nutritious. The body knows just what to do with our ingredients and explains why pups with sensitive digestive systems and skin conditions thrive on Carna4.

Transitional & Rotational Feeding

Transitioning to Carna4

It MAY take several days for your dog to adjust to the richer nutrients in Carna4. Start by mixing one-part Carna4 to four parts of your dog’s old food. Gradually increase the proportion of Carna4 over 7-10 days until you are feeding all Carna4. Remember that you will feed slightly fewer cups of Carna4 than other dry foods.

Your dog may have larger OR LOOSER stools in the early part of his or her transition period as the better-quality fiber in Carna4 helps to clean out the colon. This is a normal and healthy effect, and you will see the stools return to normal later in the transition. When transitioning to Carna4 from another diet, try sprinkling in some Flora4® ground sprouted seeds food topper to help aid digestion and normalize stools faster.

Rotating Between Carna4 Proteins
There is USUALLY no transition period needed when switching between different proteins of Carna4. Many customers switch with every bag.

However, if your pup has a sensitive tummy, we recommend feeding 50% of the old protein and 50% of the new protein for a day or so before completely switching to the new recipe AND adding ONE TABLESPOON PER FEEDING OF Flora4® to the food when switching up the proteins to keep their tummy at ease.

For large dogs, add 50 lb serving plus 1/4 cup of food per 10 lb of bodyweight over 50 lb.
